In the early 1980s, Paddy McCormack was a founder member of the Dublin Resource Centre Co-op in Templebar where he established the Craft Floor, making jewellery, stage sets and shop-fitting. Later, he was accepted to the London College of Furniture, where he received a diploma in Musical Instrument Technology.

In the late 1980s, he moved to New Zealand and began working with iron and copper. He found these mediums both versatile and expressive, bringing a free flow of form and new ideas to his work. During his eight years in New Zealand, his work was sold through galleries, retailers and by private commission.

Paddy, his wife and three children moved back to Ireland in 1997, where he continues to produce and market his work.
