West Cork Craft and Design Guild - A guide to some of Ireland's finest craftwork.

Simon Hassett - The Woodworks
Curved staircase with continuous handrail

Simon Hassett's distinctive craftsmanship is founded on a broad range of experience. His path from traditional currach-maker to furniture-maker includes forestry, sawmilling, building-carpentry and joinery. This broad experience has produced an individual approach to the making of furniture and beautiful, geometrical staircases, elliptical staircases and spiral stairs. His comprehensive knowledge of materials and techniques gives rise to some highly original pieces, solidly built with beautiful carved details. He prefers native hardwood and recycled timber, and uses environmentally friendly finishes. Simon works to commission, blending his customers' tastes with his own professional judgement. Simplicity, solidity and elegance are hallmarks of work that will be valued for generations.
